It’s impossible to resist the allure of Wilson & Dorset’s range of bean bags, cushions and rugs. Even when browsing in-store, says owner Amanda Dorset, customers love to sink into them for instant relaxation.
“Sheepskin makes everyone slow down and relax, because you’re interacting with this very tactile, natural fibre. They’ll pull up a Shaggy Bean Bag and sit and chat to us for an hour, not a care in the world.”
Wilson & Dorset pieces are designed to be dynamic and interactive, with their versatile configurations and soft textures, so the stores are intended as warm and welcoming spaces for designers and homeowners to explore for themselves. That includes the flagship store in Wānaka, where the company began, as well as stores in Arrowtown and the Australian holiday town of Bowral, outside Sydney. And now, the company has opened the doors to a space in Christchurch, in The Arts Centre Te Matatiki Toi Ora. This newest store feels like a homecoming for Amanda, who is Christchurch-born and bred. To her, it’s such a meaningful addition to an offering she’s very passionate about.
Surround yourself with wool and sheepskin, she says, and you’re living a more natural and healthy life. There are so many benefits to using wool products in homes, from its hypoallergenic and breathable properties to the luxury feel, easy cleaning and durability. From an environmental perspective, sheepskin is also biodegradable and easily renewable.
Wilson & Dorset has perfectly captured the nostalgic connection to sheepskins with a contemporary, minimal design and soothing colours that are inspired by nature. So visit the new store at Level 1, The Boys’ High Building at 28 Worcester Boulevard in Otautahi for the full experience, or see the range at the website.
