Runner-Up, Supreme Kitchen Design Award

Adam Spitz of Vekart was involved from beginning to end in the design of this Pāpāmoa, Bay of Plenty holiday home, from concept to completion.

“The brief called for a kitchen that acts as the home’s architectural statement, while supporting everyday use by the couple and accommodating 20-plus guests when entertaining,” says Adam. “The primary challenge was balancing sculptural impact with functionality.”

The kitchen takes its aesthetic cues from the monolithic box style of the home’s architecture. The island is clad in Invisible Grey marble imported from Italy, while dark-stained Toitū veneer cabinetry complements the cedar timber plank ceiling.

Careful attention was focused on the function of cabinetry without adding unnecessary detailing, and Adam also worked closely with the builder for unlimited flexibility on layout options.

The result is a sophisticated, high-performing kitchen and living hub that balances luxury, family lifestyle and large-scale entertaining, and which also won the Manufacturing Excellence Award.
