Building
More and more new homes are incorporating personalised design and smart tech, and Richard Fantham of Radius Building is delighted.
What are we looking forward to in construction?
I’m seeing a definite shift towards more personalised, multipurpose homes with higher levels of in-built technology and home automation. This is more than a trend: it’s a mindset around more functional living, rather than off-the-shelf products. I believe it’s going to produce a more fun and diverse housing stock than we’ve ever seen before.
What’s driving this?
With more people working from home and section sizes decreasing, greater focus is being placed on interior spaces that meet everyone’s needs and on well-considered outdoor spaces. In short, smarter design. While home automation isn’t new, it’s been around long enough now that it’s become more reliable and very affordable, so that couples nicely with the higher technological needs of today’s homes.
And what’s your advice?
Our company’s tagline is “Build Without Compromise”, which reflects my personal approach. We work hard in the early planning stages to help clients realise what they really want for their build. As such, I particularly enjoy helping clients discover the home design and functionality that truly reflects how they live, rather than an over- focus on resale. This process relies on getting the right people in the room from the very beginning and dialling in on how you live. So who is the right team? It’s the team that listens and then asks the right questions to help you discover what you really want. There’s a style fit required, which is why we partner with multiple architects and interior designers, all with different talents. At Radius Building, we’ve been advocating this kind of approach to bespoke building for a long time now and believe it’s the way forward. If you’re looking to build: be bold, have fun with your ideas and build something that’s uniquely you.
