Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2019, Living Coral, is vibrant and luminous, but how do you successfully incorporate such a striking shade into your interior spaces?

If you are a fan of this year’s choice from Pantone and want to introduce a little coral into your home, here are some suggestions for how you can avoid strong coral tones becoming overwhelming.

Rather than opting for a bright, consider sunbaked shades of coral such as Resene Just Dance to give an earthier, calm feeling to your space.

Introduce coral in small doses, a feature wall or painted furniture can add a hint of the on-trend shade without dominating the space. Add highlights with pillows, vases, or throws in complementary shades.

Opt for a bold pattern with a coral-hued wallpaper such as the tropical palm leaf pattern of Resene Wallpaper Collection design 384503.

Coral works surprisingly well with rich, earthy green tones such as Resene Peace or Resene Waiouru or you can pair it with soft warm white Resene Half Spanish White to help cool the coral down.

Mix and match delicate pastel coral shades such as Resene Sorbet for the lightest touch, introducing just a hint of colour tone on tone.

Coral can be bold and vibrant, warm and earthy, or gentle and subtle leaving you with the choice of many ways to utilise this versatile and eye-catching colour to refresh a living area, bedroom, or perhaps a powder room in Resene Sorbet?
