Interior style

Creating a cohesive interior scheme takes just a few key ingredients.

Unless you have limitless funds, transforming a house into a home is something that develops over time. Getting to know your own style is also something that doesn’t happen overnight: it is explored and nourished, by drawing on inspiration from the world around you and your own inner well of likes and dislikes.

COLOUR CRUSH
What colours are you naturally drawn to time and time again? Look to your art collection or your wardrobe for colours and themes that emerge, and use these as your starting point. Keep an eye out for how colour and pattern are employed in design showrooms, magazines, books and blogs or look to Mother Nature where the range of hues is vast and colour combinations are plenty.

TEXTURAL LAYERING
Whether the season calls for light and breezy fabrics or weightier, textured ones, layering different materials creates interest. From the living room to the boudoir, there is great scope to experiment with what works and what doesn’t.
For the cooler months, layer up just as you would with warm clothing. Add a mix of blankets and cushions in luxurious textures like pure wool and plush velvet, and for the warmer months swap the chunky blankets for lightweight cotton throws, stonewashed linen and hemp cushion covers.

DECORATIVE DISPLAY
Adding the finishing touches to your home is a personal endeavour. This is your opportunity to draw on your own interests for inspiration: whether you love trawling the local flea markets and vintage stores for unique collectibles that tell a story, or spending hours on end combing the beach for natural treasures, or taking your own artistic photographs – all these finds and creations can be curated and presented as a part of a stylish display.
Look to your walls to hang groups of artworks; or to bookshelves, sideboards and windowsills where tiny vignettes can be created with just a few select items, like a pot plant, a framed photograph and a scented candle, for example.

Whatever your passion, let your imagination run wild and create a home that is a true reflection of who you are.
